Terrorist Takedown: Payback is the sequel to Terrorist Takedown, and it is often labeled as a standalone expansion pack. It features 10 missions with the same gameplay of its predecessor: a first person rail shooter with some third person helicopter levels. In the first person levels the player has to take down enemies with machine guns and cannons mounted on helicopters or HMMVVs. Sometimes the player controls a stationary gun. When controlling a machine gun, a "heat" meter is shown and if the gun overheats, the player has to wait for it to cool down until it can shoot again. The vehicles the player is in have a damage meter at the screen’s bottom left. In some other levels, the player controls a helicopter from a third person perspective with unlimited ammo. The helicopter is controlled with both the mouse (for direction) and the keyboard (for height). The game features some improvements over its predecessor, like a high score system and different difficulty levels.

Al igual que la primera parte, Call of Duty 2 está basado en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Allí el jugador puede encarnar, en tres campañas distintas, a un soldado soviético, estadounidense o británico con la finalidad de vencer a los Nazis en distintos escenarios. Todas las batallas que aparecen en el juego son reales.
El título pertenece al género de la acción en primera persona. Se compone de cuatro campañas, que están divididas en tres batallas (salvo una que es única) y cada una de estas está dividida en varias misiones. El juego no sigue un orden estricto en cuanto al desarrollo de las campañas, ya que se basa en el año en el que nos encontramos en cada batalla. Así, al comenzar a jugar por primera vez el jugador se encuentra en 1941, pudiendo luchar únicamente en la batalla de Moscú de la campaña soviética. Una vez completada ésta, se avanza hasta 1942 y se puede continuar con la campaña soviética o participar en batallas de las otras campañas.
El jugador, a pesar de estar en prácticamente la totalidad de la aventura acompañado por soldados aliados, no puede dar órdenes a estos y por lo tanto seguirán su propio camino. En ciertas ocasiones se hace uso de vehículos para avanzar, donde el objetivo del jugador es neutralizar a los enemigos mientras un aliado lo conduce. Solo se toma el control de un vehículo en la tercera campaña, donde el jugador debe de manejar un tanque británico en Libia.
Los escenarios de Call of Duty 2 reproducen Rusia en la época invernal donde muchos alemanes murieron a causa del extremo frío (primera campaña); el desierto Libio donde se pelea en el ejército británico contra el Afrika Korps dirigido por el mariscal de campo Erwin Rommel (segunda campaña); y Normandía, precisamente en las playas de desembarco, con los estadounidenses y unas misiones en Caen también peleando por los británicos (tercera campaña aunque esta es más orientada a los estadounidenses).
En la campaña rusa se combate contra los alemanes en las calles de Moscú y de Stalingrado, en la personalidad de un soldado ruso que ha perdido a casi toda su familia en la guerra. La acción promete mucho y es considerada por muchos como la mejor campaña del juego, (pues las demás se pueden tornar un tanto repetitivas), aunque presenta ciertas fallas como que todos los alemanes van vestidos con sus uniformes de invierno, cosa que no fue así.
En la campaña británica el desierto está en todos lados, se arman escaramuzas callejeras en pequeños pueblos desérticos y las misiones pueden ofrecer acción, pues se maneja un tanque Crusader británico, se asalta la poderosa línea defensiva alemana que debía su letalidad a los cañones de 88 mm anticarro, se asalta un asentamiento por sorpresa, etc.

Procesador 1.4 GHz, Intel Pentium IV o AMD equivalente, 256 MB RAM, tarjeta de video de 64 MB+ compatible con DirectX 9.0 y sus últimos drivers
